A Guide to User Experience Design
An amateur designer may think that an interface design is simply for the user’s benefit and that the only thing he needs to do is to make it attractive. An experienced designer on the other hand, will know that the best and truly great interfaces are those that are not only good in design but feel comfortable to the user and leave with him good memories.
You might have designed a great looking interface, but if it is not simple and easy to navigate through, your client will face a lot more problems than he had before if you want to develop a user interface design that is attention grabbing yet helpful and not messy, you need to keep a few very basic things in mind. Given below are some of the points that you will need to know to get started.
Your Message
Have clarity as of your goals. Do you wish to inform? May be you wish to inspire? Are you interested in the user taking action? Are you just interested in the engagement? In gathering date? All these questions are critical as they will determine the kind of user experience desired.
The Client
The first step to user interface design and evaluation is to know your client and what he needs. Be informed on his goals, his inspirations, his audience and his competitors as well. A well researched client will make all the difference in the final design you come up with. Sit with your clients and ask them if they have any preferences. If they have, do not mimic and copy, simply get inspired and make something of your own.
Get inspired
Once again, before you get started on your own design, you need to look at other places like Facebook to get inspired. There are tons of websites that have a user friendly interface and in the end this is where you should aim for. Incorporate these interfaces into your own design because they will make your client feel comfortable as he would have used them before.
Stay simple
Simplicity is one way you can ensure that the user interface design is trouble and confusion-free. An interface that has too many elements will be difficult to figure out. So, the best thing you can do is make sure to ask yourself if the component you are adding is really needed. Remember that you may love something and want to add it, but that doesn’t necessarily mean it is needed by the user.
Be consistent
Users depend on the consistency that you provide for them in the interface. Don’t get overwhelmed and design something that is all over the place. Instead, work for consistency and balance in things like language and layout. This will help your client to understand and work through it easily.
Engage, Engage and Engage
Ensure that your experience engages users. That it captivate their attention. That will keep them interested in more and more…
